Parliamentary Debate

Debate practices are Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:45-5:45pm  in Ms. Nguyen’s room, C303. Coach Joel Jacobs is present at these practices.

Parliamentary (Parli) debate is the main debate event in which ECHS competes. Debaters enter tournaments in teams of two. Tournaments announce a different topic for each round and participants have 20 minutes to research the topic and devise arguments for their assigned side. The topics are generally drawn from politics, philosophy or current affairs. Parli debate develops skills in fast research, nimble thinking, good communication, and organization, and encourages students to follow current events.
